Welcome to Lux.

A black and white image of a woman holding a cat, silhouetted by light shining in through a window.

Moments of fleeting perfection.

I’ll occasionally come across other photographers whose photos stop me in my tracks. They force me to slow down, breathe, and spend time pouring over the details. I’ve only experienced this a handful of times with my own photos, so I consider it a tremendous privilege whenever I experience these same feelings from the work of another.

By getting lost in an image, I get to do the impossible. It's an opportunity to hold myself in a moment that's frozen in time forever. The shutter button on a camera is like a pause button for time itself. The photos shared here are not arrangements of pixels illuminated in aesthetically pleasing ways, but rather collections of moments that deserve to last forever.

“Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.”
– Dorothea Lange

Lux is Latin for "light." Opposite of Nox, one photo will be featured every month when the moon is full. Accompanying that photo will be other photos from the same set that help add context and narrative to the featured photo. Artists are always paid to be featured here. Occasionally, if an artist prefers, a written reflection will accompany the featured photos.

Much of the work featured here will feel vulnerable, raw, or personal. I don’t take that lightly. These are the images I find myself drawn to the most. Moments I would otherwise not be invited to experience. Those that carry a kind of dignity that defies their vulnerability. I feel the weight of the responsibility that featuring such images will carry, and I will do my best to present and preserve them with the same care they were taken.

Welcome to Lux, and thanks for stopping by.
